Electrode care tips
- Thoroughly wash and dry your forehead before each treatment session. Use basic soap, not alcohol wipes or facial cleansers.
- Apply the electrode to clean, dry skin, without any moisturizers or makeup.
- Handle electrodes by the edge, and wash your hands before applying the electrode.
- Recline or lie down when attaching CEFALY and during your treatment.
- When you remove an electrode after treatment, immediately replace it on the plastic backing, adhesive side down. Then seal it in the electrode pouch.

Electrode FAQ
Both standard and hypoallergenic electrodes can be reused as long as the electrode adheres well to the skin on the forehead. The number of uses varies from person to person. Some CEFALY users tell us they can get 20 or more uses from one electrode, while others say they last for about 5-10 uses. Standard electrodes typically provide more uses than hypoallergenic.
The two main things that shorten electrode life are skin oils and dehydration. To make sure your electrodes last as long as possible, follow these guidelines:
- Wash your hands before each use. Hold electrode pads by the edge to avoid transferring natural oils from your fingertips to the sticky surface.
- Thoroughly wash and dry your forehead before each treatment session. Use basic soap. Don’t use alcohol wipes, facial cleansers, lotions, moisturizers, or oils. (If you have oily skin, your electrodes may need to be replaced more frequently.)
- Lie back or recline during treatment.
- When you remove an electrode after treatment, immediately replace it on the plastic backing, adhesive side down. Then seal it in the resealable electrode bag.
- Some users say a few drops of tap water on the electrode can gently rehydrate it and help it stay usable longer.
Look at your electrode before starting a treatment. Is the gel dried out, dirty, cracked, or clumping? If so, throw it out and get a fresh electrode. Additionally, if you notice the stimulation feels different or causes any discomfort, it may be time to change your electrode. Look at section 2.5 of your user manual for more information about electrode care.

We recommend the hypoallergenic electrodes for anyone with a known acrylate allergy, or who experiences an allergic reaction (rash) on the forehead after using standard electrodes.
Please note that the skin under the electrode may appear red or blotchy after a treatment session. This effect is normal, and is caused by increased local blood flow to the skin. Usually it disappears within 15 minutes.
If a temporary rash develops on the forehead, this can mean you have an allergy to the electrode. If this should occur, stop using CEFALY until the rash disappears, which may take a few days. The use of an anti-inflammatory cream can accelerate the disappearance of the rash. Try using hypoallergenic electrodes instead, and contact your doctor or CEFALY Technology if you have any questions.
